2017: Ben Stewart, DB, Cathedral High School

SCOUTING REPORT: BEN STEWART, 2016 S, CATHEDRAL

contributor: @ascoutinglife

Exposures: HUDL Film. In-person Eval vs Warren Central, Decatur Central (2014)

Height: 5’11”

Weight: 195

Strengths: Has it all on the field – rangy and agile safety who can cover lots of ground in a short amount of time. Has the instincts – is quick to read and react, and flows to the ball. Outstanding closing speed and athleticism shines on the field – contributes as a kick and punt returner on specials and excels on defense. Is very agile and explosive – can come up, hit with force, and wrap up on contact. Can cover and carry deep plays down the field, undercut routes, and make plays on the ball. Excellent run defender – tackles with leverage and good pad level. Good player in space – slides his feet, bends at the knees, and stays square and mirrors movements of the running back on stretch runs. Has ball skills and can make dramatic catches, adjusting back to the ball in midair and consistently making plays. Impact player – is a huge difference-maker on Cathedral’s defense, and has a non-stop motor even while losing. Comes from a highly-successful football program.

Weaknesses: Has room to grow, but has time to get stronger over the next two years. Runs through contact and has good balance as a return man, but lacks the top-end breakaway speed to stick there in college.

Summary: Ben has quickly emerged as a top 2017 prospect in the state. His impact on Cathedral is undeniable; he is a very well-coached player who has the athleticism and plays with technique. His motor, instincts, and range make him a legitimate Division I college football player in the future.
